A message from Sun Federal's new President/CEO
We may not have had the opportunity to meet just yet, but I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Brian Hughes and by now you may have heard that our long-time President/CEO, Gary Moritz, has retired. Along with his retirement came my appointment to President/CEO by your Board of Directors.
Gary has been both a mentor and friend to me and many, many members. He led and fostered a mission-centered organization that was about building relationships with all of you. It’s clear that you responded – together we have grown to over $500MM in assets, 130+ employees and 35,000+ members.
I had the pleasure of working side-by-side with Gary since 1995. My career started as Chief Financial Officer just after our partnerships with Defense Supply’s credit union in Philadelphia, PA and Surface Combustion’s credit union in Maumee, OH. Years later my role expanded when I was appointed to the Vice President of Finance, Wealth and Business Solutions position and then a year and a half ago, I became Executive Vice President. Through all the years, I never lost sight of what was modelled for me each day by our wonderful team…relationships matter; that you, our members, matter.
So, what does this next sunrise of Sun Federal look like for us all? To sum it up, we are going to see change without changing.
Here is what I mean…what won’t change; our mission-purpose & supporting principles, our core values (Trust, Relationships, Excellence, Service and Teamwork) and the work culture we aspire to realize which we believe makes your credit union a unique cooperative. So, what does that mean for you? We will continue to build personal and professional relationships based on care and are committed to earning your trust. We believe that if we do that right then you will grant us permission to introduce sound advice and products & services that can improve your financial wellbeing and, ultimately, your quality of life. Many of you have responded by doing life with Sun Federal as a silent partner when you work on an education, start a career or family, purchase a home or plan for retirement.
What will change is your experience with us. The overwhelming majority of you have responded by telling us in surveys, letters, posts and in-person stories that you love how we are serving you. We believe we can build on what you love about us while continuing to transform.
We have committed a lot of energy, resources and people towards doubling down on our mission of impacting lives by transforming the member experience. Whether at work where you will encounter our team ready to help (if your employer is one of our 300+ sponsor groups), a branch (new high-touch and high-tech experiences) or in your “pajamas” (mobile & online transformation) our goal is to do what we do best, build relationships with you and in some way help transform your life.
With our continued commitment to our mission, your support & honest feedback, I can see our next sunrise just over the horizon…it is inspirational, breathtaking and represents a bright future for us all!
